Nuria Calatayud
I am Núria Calatayud, a visual artist with a career marked by experimentation, curiosity, and a profoundly human perspective. Although I developed my professional career as a teacher in a school for adults, creativity has always been present in my life. At the age of eight, I received my first drawing prize in Barcelona, and since then, art has been a constant space for exploration and expression.
My artistic training has been built through national and international courses and learning alongside different teachers in Catalonia, the United Kingdom, Greece, and Germany. I work from contemporary abstraction, exploring multiple techniques and languages, as I conceive painting as a laboratory where each work is unique and never repeated.
My work uses color as a tool for emotional connection, energy, and reflection. I do not believe in merely decorative art, but in pieces that dialogue with those who contemplate them and bring presence, character, and meaning. I am currently developing my project from a professional perspective, combining the sale of original work with exhibition projection, with the aim that each work finds the person with whom it truly connects.
I paint because I need to. Because for many years creativity was there, waiting for its moment, and when it reappeared it did so with force. My path has not been linear: between science, teaching, and constant contact with people, art was finding its space until it became an essential form of expression.
In painting, I found freedom. Freedom to experiment, not to repeat myself, to try different techniques, and to let each work have its own pulse. I am interested in color as energy, as emotion, as a language that acts beyond words. My works do not seek to please superficially or go unnoticed: they seek to activate something in those who contemplate them.
I work from abstraction because that is where I feel the viewer can project themselves, feel, and discover. My work can bring calm or impulse, introspection or strength, but it always proposes an intimate dialogue. It is not a neutral object on a wall: it is a presence that accompanies, stimulates, and transforms the space in which it lives.
I deeply believe that art makes sense when it connects with people. That is why I care who takes a work, how they experience it, and what it awakens in them over time. If someone comes into contact with my work and feels that they discover something new every day, then the work is fulfilling its function.
I paint to bring energy, emotion, and humanity. To create spaces where you feel free, inspired, and accompanied. And to demonstrate that art, when it is honest, has the ability to change the way we inhabit our daily lives.
